Our Role & Impact

Legislative Activities

Founded in and serving the Washington, DC area since 2001, NatCapLyme educates government officials and healthcare industry leaders about Lyme and tick-borne diseases on behalf of individuals and families of those afflicted with such diseases. We actively engage with all sides of the Lyme and tick-borne disease issue to encourage measurable progress. NatCapLyme is an all-volunteer organization, but we have an appointed legal and legislative counsel, as well as individual board members, who bring political and legal experience to the table. Our legislative activities are ongoing, always focused on improving the lives of tick-borne disease sufferers.

We’re fighting on many fronts. We invite you to see what we’re doing on a state and federal level:

Virginia Legislative Action Alert

Delegate Rust believes that H.B.512 , bill relating to long-term antibiotic treatment for Lyme disease.will come before Subcommittee #1 of the Committee on Health, Welfare and Institutions this coming Monday, January 25, at 5 pm.

To move forward, the H.B. 512 must be approved by the subcommittee.  It is critical that all do the following:

  1. CONTACT your Virigina Senator and Delegate and ask that they support H.B. 512 and become a co-sponsor.  You can find their names and contact information on the NatCapLyme website. www.natcaplyme.org
  2. COME to Richmond Monday and join the NatCapLyme lobbying effort.  Visit your Senator and Delegate and tell them how important it is that they support H.B. 512.  Tell them you personal story with Lyme disease and how hard it is to find a doctor who will treat chronic Lyme.
  3. ATTEND the Subcommittee #1 hearing at 5 PM.  The meeting room is the 4h floor West Conference Room.  If we get a good turnout, there will not be enough room for everyone in the committee room, and that is fine if we’re so strong in numbers that we’re pouring out into the hallway.  This committee is chaired by Del. O’Bannon (a doctor).  It’s members are: O’Bannon (Chairman), Nutter, Peace, Bell, Richard P., Garrett, Spruill, Howell, A.T.

WE WILL NOT KNOW FOR SURE that Monday is the day until sometime Friday.  Make plans NOW, but remain flexible.  We’re sorry, but that’s the way the Virgina House of Delegates works.  We cannot change that, BUT WE CAN CHANGE HOW LYME TREATING DOCTORS ARE TREATED IN VIRGINIA.
